Place Speech Formal Delivery: 12/14
Learning Report: 12/14
College Speech Reflection and Peer Feedback: 12/14
Complete Portfolio: 12/16
You've done it! You've nearly completed a semester of Intermediate Comp. This means that it is time to compile your reflections to draw conclusions about how and what you have learned since September.
Together, we will create a learning report using a shared google doc.
The report has four components:
You will want to read over all of the reflections from the semester and extract well-worded sentences that fall into each of those categories. It's the section where you build your argument as to why you deserve the grade you give yourself.
4. Rate your performance on a scale of 0-4 for each standard. Support with specific examples.
5. Lastly, below, write a short paragraph about how you like the non-graded approach. What worked? What didn't work?
Great first round of presentations everyone. Now, we can move forward to tweak and improve, to learn and to grow.
Below you can sign up for the city, country, or region that you want to present on. Remember to gather information that you think YOUR AUDIENCE will find interesting. Also, be thinking about how you can make your presentation fresh for everyone. I will not have your college speech videos and reflection details uploaded until next week. I'll have more information for you on Monday.
Your homework for the weekend is to come to class prepared to give a short portion of your presentation to the class.
Bring a completed powerpoint and outline to Monday's class. Let me know if you have any question. All the supporting material for this assignment can be found on the Place Speech page.
Over the break, practice your College Speech at least eight times. If you lost the rehearsal log, you can find it on the College Speech page. Make sure to time your speeches and give your audience the rubric so that they can give the most helpful feedback possible.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Read, annotate, and complete the note-taking sheet for your assigned article on technology.
Are you interested in reading the other articles? You can find them on the Read Research Project page.
In preparation for conducting some research, we are going to establish our thinking about what we know to be true. Our research topic will be technology.
How does technology impact your life? Explain the effect of technology in each of these areas of your life. Compose 1 formal paragraph on each subtopic. This should have a topic sentence, supporting details, specific examples, and conclude with a statement of fact.
Post your five paragraphs to Digication under a new section titled Inquiry.
Respond to the following questions using complete sentences and post to Digication. Show the entire writing process with statements of context and connections to standards and habits of minds.
1 What part of writing this paper took the most time?
Perhaps you had trouble finding a topic or expressing a particular idea. Maybe you agonized over a single word or phrase. Be specific when you answer this question.
2 What is the most significant difference between your first draft and this final version?
Explain if you changed your approach to the subject, if you reorganized the paper in any significant way, or if you added or deleted any major details.
3 What do you think is the best part of your paper?
Explain why a particular sentence, paragraph, or idea pleases you.
4 What part of this paper could still be improved?
Again, be specific. There may be a troublesome sentence in the paper or an idea that isn't expressed as clearly as you would like it to be.
