Thesis Statement Practice
If it has been a while since you crafted a thesis, check out this website. I also like it as a resources for rhetorical terms.
Your task tonight is to craft a thesis statement in response to this question: Why are we talking about food and what are we saying, as a nation. Make sure to draw a connection between the Parade infographic and Pollan's essay "Eat Food: Food Defined and/or Lily Wong's "Eating the Hyphen."
Here is my attempt:
As a nation, though we lack a food tradition that allows us to lean on the wisdom of past generations, we are obsessed with food and motivated to make healthy choices as seen in "Parade: What America Eats;" our obsession paired with our ignorance (Pollan) is responsible for an over-complicated, food-product industry that doesn't nourish our culture.
Also, due this Friday (at the end of class) is your group's three topics for your three CERs.
The silence in class today concerns me. Make sure to speak up. Post comments here, or email me for a more one-on-one conversation. We are in this together. It's important to let me know when you have questions or concerns.
